How We Are Building Trust — and Why It Comes First

In our tradition, trust is not a marketing word. It is amaanah — a duty owed before God and before one another. A bank that would be owned by its own community cannot ask for that trust; it has to earn it, openly, from the very first day. That is why we are building this initiative in full view of the people it is meant to serve.

We are being equally open about what this is, and what it is not. Masno Bank Initiative is at the community-mandate stage. We are not yet a licensed or operating bank. We do not take deposits, we do not lend, and we do not collect money of any kind. What we are doing now is the honest groundwork: listening to the community, building its support, engaging the proper authorities, and designing an institution worthy of the name before a single account is ever opened.

Our commitments to you

Openness about where we stand. We will always tell you plainly which stage the initiative has reached — what has been achieved, what is still ahead, and what remains uncertain. No inflated claims, no false momentum.

A visible community mandate. We publish how many people have added their name in support of a community-owned bank, because that mandate belongs to the community and should be seen by it. We count people and support — never money, because none is being collected.

Regular, honest updates. As we engage the Central Bank of Somaliland, refine the structure, and take each step toward licensing, we will report progress in clear language — the setbacks as much as the milestones.

Governance that answers to the community. This is being designed as a bank owned by its members, on the principle of one member, one vote. The people who support it now are shaping what it becomes.

A foundation certified, not merely claimed. Every future product will be built on Islamic finance principles and reviewed by an independent Sharia Supervisory Board of respected scholars. Compliance will be verified, not asserted.

The proper legal path. We are pursuing licensing and regulation through the correct channels, in the correct order. We would rather build slowly and lawfully than quickly and carelessly with the community's future.

A clear path when the time comes. There will come a stage when capital is raised to build the bank — but only after every regulatory and compliance step has been completed, not before. When that day arrives, nothing about it will be hidden.

You will receive our official updates as the initiative progresses, and — if and when a properly licensed structure is established — those who registered their support will be the first invited to learn how they can take part.

Trust, in the end, is built the same way a good institution is: patiently, honestly, and in the open. That is the only way we intend to build Masno Bank.
