Banking the Halal Way —
by Design, Not by Label
Masno Bank Initiative is built, from the ground up, on the principles of Islamic finance — not as a label, but as its operating system. Money here is not lent for interest; it is put to work in the real economy, fairly, transparently, and in partnership with the people it serves.
Our Principles
Free from riba (interest)
We neither charge nor pay interest. Returns to members and savers arise only from real trade, real assets, and shared enterprise — never from money making money on its own.
Profit-and-loss sharing
Through Mudarabah and Musharakah partnerships, savers and the bank share in genuine outcomes. When enterprise succeeds, members share in that success; risk is shared, not transferred onto the weakest party.
Asset-backed and real
Every financing is tied to a real asset, good, or service — a shop's stock, a farmer's equipment, a family's home. No speculation (gharar), no gambling (maysir), nothing detached from the real economy.
Ethically screened
Funds are never placed in what is forbidden — alcohol, gambling, exploitation, or harm. Our capital builds; it does not corrode.
Serving the higher purpose (Maqasid al-Sharia)
Finance exists to protect and uplift people's lives, livelihoods, and dignity. A benevolent-loan fund (Qard Hasan) supports members in hardship, and Zakat is administered faithfully.
Certified and accountable
An independent Sharia Supervisory Board of respected scholars will review and certify every product, with ongoing Sharia audit. No product reaches the community without their approval.
Our Sharia Supervisory Board
Every product and contract will be reviewed and certified by an independent board of respected scholars, with ongoing Sharia audit. Their approval is a precondition, not an afterthought.

Our Proposed Focus
Services Masno Bank would offer once established and licensed:
Everyday banking, the halal way
Safekeeping current accounts and Mudarabah-based savings, so families can bank with confidence and conscience.
Financing the real economy
Fair, asset-based finance for traders, shopkeepers, small businesses, farmers and pastoralists — through Murabaha, Ijara, and Musharakah partnerships, not debt traps.
Affordable, transparent remittances
Cutting the cost and friction of sending money home, so more of every dollar reaches the family it was meant for — and stays working in the local economy.
Trade and agricultural finance
Backing Somaliland's livestock, trade, and agricultural sectors with finance built around real goods and real seasons.
Financial inclusion
Reaching the people the current system overlooks — women, youth, and the unbanked — and bringing them into a fair, dignified financial life.
Community and social finance
A Qard Hasan hardship fund and faithful Zakat administration, so the bank strengthens the whole community, not only its account-holders.
Simple. Ethical. Accessible.
