A Bank Built by Somalis, for Every Somali
Wherever you are — at home or in the diaspora — this is your opportunity to collaborate and establish a financial institution geared toward serving our needs and open to all.
Our Wealth · Our Bank · Our Future
Masno Bank Initiative is at the community-mandate stage. We are not yet a licensed or operating bank, and we do not accept deposits, lend money, sell shares, or handle any funds. Right now we are doing one thing: building the community's mandate for a bank owned by its own people. Add your name — no money is involved at any stage of this page.
Why Somalis need a bank of their own
Our community is growing — our finance should too
Somalis at home and in the diaspora work hard and our commerce is expanding. Yet too much of our finance is privately held, costly, slow to change, and focused on the few rather than the many.
Every Somali deserves affordable access
Affordable savings and credit remain out of reach for many families, traders, and farmers — wherever they live. A community-owned bank answers to its members: ordinary people, first.
Our wealth should serve our people
Too much of our collective wealth flows away from our communities. A community bank reinvests its profits in the people and places that create them, across the globe.
A community-owned bank would change who finance answers to: us.
What makes it different
Most banks are owned by a handful of shareholders and answer to their interests. Masno Bank Initiative is built on a different model — one where the people it serves own it and govern it.
Owned by the Somali community — at home and in the diaspora — not by any single family or private interest
Governed democratically: members elect the board; one member, one vote
Profits reinvested in the community, not extracted
Open to all Somalis, wherever they are in the world
Built for ordinary people — families, traders, farmers, small businesses — first
Operated on Islamic and ethical finance principles
Transparent and member-led, and fully licensed before it ever opens its doors
The path ahead
Build the mandate
We are hereRegister the community's support — this is the stage we are at now.
Engage the regulator
Work with relevant financial regulators on the proper licensing pathway.
Establish the structure
Incorporate as a community/cooperative entity with a clear, published constitution.
Raise capital lawfully
Only once authorised, through a properly structured community offer.
Open and serve
Savings, small loans, business finance, remittances, and agricultural support.
Each stage happens in order. We will not ask anyone for money until step 4, and only under a properly licensed structure.
Add your name to the mandate
Your details are private and used only to build the community mandate and to keep you informed.
What happens after I register?
You're counted in the mandate
Your name joins the community mandate that makes this possible. Every name matters.
Honest updates, as we progress
You'll receive straightforward updates as we engage the regulator and build the structure — no hype, no pressure.
First to be invited when the time comes
When (and only when) a lawful, licensed community offer exists, registered supporters will be the first invited to a proper information session.
